HI-R-W26-W2 (HID RFID reader with wiegand 26 interface)

For this project,I am using HI-R-W26-W2 (HID RFID reader with wiegand 26 interface) to read the data from RFID tag. This reader is a contactless smart card reader. It is read-only card serial number or customize read-only data. This reader communicates with the controller through the Wiegand, ABA, RS232 or RS485 interface, and it is special design for access control, time attendance and other applications. This reader adopts powerful eight microprocessor, advance watch-dog and voltage monitoring circuit design. Set high security and economical efficiency, not only has the characteristics of high integration, strong anti-jamming capability but also small size and more stable performance.

RFID TAG

The RFID tag involved in this project is passive tag. Passive tags are used in this project because it can be much smaller and cheaper than active. So it is ideal for this system and can operate effectively. Another advantage is their longer shelf life, where as an active tag batteries may last only a few years, a passive tag could in principle be read many decades after the chip was manufactured. Mifare 4k MF1ICS70 model of tag is choosing as it very cheap and it have internal memory about4 kbyte besides this tag already used by most university. At this moment, internal memory inside the tag is not used yet.

Problem Statement

  •             Current exam monitoring method require lot of manpower and time.
  •              No digital method that can evaluate the presence or absence of the candidates during the examination.
  •              Method used not practical(collecting attendance slip).
  •          Current exam monitoring system require student to raise their hand to get help from invigilator, they might not notice  the student.

OBJECTIVES

·        Store students ID and name.
·        To display the status of exam candidate
·        The system will use Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID)
as the main input to collect candidate's attendance during the examination.
·         To record the activities of student candidate (attendance, answer booklet and toile

Development Of Card Reader Using RFID for Exam Monitoring System

INTRODUCTION

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology has been widely used by various industries as a part of an automation system. In this study, an RFID based system will been built in order to produce more efficient exam monitoring system. The focus of this project is mainly the development of a card reader using RFID. RFID card readers are used to track nearby tags by wirelessly reading a tag's unique ID. RFID card tag simply has to be brought into physical proximity with a reader to be read . The card reader is supposedly to be build with LCD and LED. The LED act as an indicator to indicate whether the card is working correctly or not. The purpose of LCD is to display the output. The output of the card reader should contain attendance of the candidate, serial number of answer booklet and list of the student went to the toilet. The purpose of this project is to provides convenient and efficient exam monitoring system  plus saving user’s energy. It is a solution for the conventional exam monitoring system that  carry a lot of drawbacks.
